Enquire for PP Virgin NaturalPolypropylene (PP) is a thermoplastic polymer made by polymerising propylene. It is one of the most widely used plastics in the world because it combines low weight with good strength, stiffness and heat resistance at an economical price.
PP is semi-crystalline, which gives it a high melting point compared with other commodity plastics, excellent fatigue resistance (it is used for “living hinges” on caps and boxes) and very low moisture absorption. It is easy to colour, easy to process and fully recyclable.
Polypropylene resists most acids, alkalis and solvents at room temperature, which is why it is widely used for chemical containers, lab ware and pipes.
| Exposure | Resistance |
|---|---|
| Dilute acids | Excellent |
| Alkalis (bases) | Excellent |
| Alcohols | Excellent |
| Water & moisture | Excellent — very low absorption |
| Detergents & salts | Excellent |
| Oils & greases | Good |
| Aromatic & chlorinated solvents | Limited — may swell |
| Strong oxidising acids | Poor |
| UV / sunlight (unstabilised) | Limited — use UV-stabilised grade |
General guidance at room temperature. Actual performance depends on grade, temperature, concentration and exposure time — please consult us for critical applications.
PP has a good melt flow and processes well on standard plastic machinery. Common fabrication methods include:
Most common route for PP — buckets, crates, caps, furniture, automotive and appliance parts.
Sheets, pipes, profiles, strapping and films produced by continuous extrusion.
Bottles and hollow containers with good stiffness and chemical resistance.
PP sheet heated and formed into trays, cups and packaging.
Tapes and fibres for woven sacks, FIBC bags, ropes and non-woven fabrics.
PP blended with fillers, colours and additives to tailor properties.
Typical values for PP homopolymer. Properties vary by grade — technical details for specific lots are available on request.
